Priors Creek opening weekend program announced as precinct prepares to go live.
Tablelands Regional Council has released the opening weekend poster for Priors Creek Parklands, giving the community its clearest picture yet of how the new precinct will come to life across Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July.
The two-day opening will feature a mix of live entertainment, markets, food, family activities and community celebration, with Friday’s program including the civic ribbon cutting and opening ceremony, sunset markets, local performances, SOS: The Australian ABBA Tribute Show and a fireworks display.
Saturday will continue from 8.00am to 1.00pm with Fitness in the Parklands, a huge kid’s creative play zone featuring Marvellous Miss Mary and Zippity Zac, Storytime in the Park, Basketball Skills and Drills, artisan and farmers markets and food trucks, before evening entertainment resumes from 5.00pm and the 70s and 80s Spectacular begins at 6.30pm.
Tablelands Regional Council General Manager Placemaking Greg Bowden said the program was designed not only to celebrate the opening of the space, but to show the community what Priors Creek Parklands could become.
“Priors Creek Live is intended to signal the future of the precinct as an active, welcoming and regularly used community space,” Mr Bowden said.
“Opening weekend is not just about cutting a ribbon. It is about showing what this precinct can be when it is active, welcoming and full of life. Priors Creek Parklands has been designed as a place for the community to gather, connect and return to, and this program is the first step in bringing that vision to life.”
The opening weekend program also points to that longer-term vision, with the poster encouraging the community to follow Priors Creek Live for updates on future sunset markets, Creekside Cinema, Tablelands Music Showcase, Halloween, Fitness in the Parklands, Storytime in the Park and more.
Priors Creek Parklands, at Mabi Way in Atherton, is being positioned as a new public destination for community life, events and precinct activation in the Tablelands.
The opening weekend poster is now available, and more updates will be shared in the lead-up to the opening.
