Australia Day Awards

On Wednesday 26 January 2022 people all around the county will celebrate what’s great about Australia. We would like you to help us celebrate what’s special about our community by nominating someone you know for an Australia Day Award.

Nominations are open until 5pm Monday 20 December 2021.

Our Australia Day Awards recognise volunteers, businesses, sporting groups and community organisation, and achievements in sports and arts. The awards are presented at a ceremony at 9am on Australia Day at the Atherton International Club. In line with the Queensland Health Covid-19 directive, you must demonstrate full vaccination status to enter the International Club.

Australia Day Awards

Citizen of the Year Awards

  • Citizen Award recognises lifetime contributions and achievements for a nominee 26 years of age or older as at 26 January 2022.
  • Young Citizen recognises lifetime contributions and achievements for a nominee aged 12–25 years of age as at 26 January 2022.

Community Service Award

  • Recognises significant contribution and achievement to the community during 2021.

Inclusion Award

  • Recognises the outstanding achievements of a business, organisation or individual who has contributed positively to an inclusive community for all regardless of age, ability or culture.

 Community Event of the Year

  • Recognises an outstanding community event held within the TRC region during the 2021 calendar year.

Sports Supporter Award

  • Recognises the significant contribution and leadership of an individual in a coaching, refereeing, administrative and/or voluntary role in supporting sport within the region.

Sports Awards

  • Sports Award is for a nominee 26 years of age or older who has made outstanding achievements as a competitor and contributed positively to sport in our community.
  • Junior Award is for a nominee 25 years of age and under at 26 January 2022 who has made outstanding achievements as a competitor and contributed positively to sport in our community.

Cultural Awards

  • Cultural Award is for a nominee 26 years of age or older at 26 January 2022 who has made an outstanding contribution in the arts and to the cultural life of our community.
  • Junior Award is for a nominee 25 years of age and under at 26 January 2022 who has made an outstanding contribution in the arts and to the cultural life of our community.
  • If a nominee has won an Australia Day award in the previous year they are not eligible to be nominated for the same category this year.
  • By submitting a nomination you and the nominee agree that TRC may use images and information according to our Contributor License Deed.
  • If judges deem the nominated category is not suitable, they have the right to move nominees to a more suitable category. The judging panel will consist of two Councillors and two independent citizen from the community. The panel will make their decisions based on the information provided with the nomination form. The panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into about their decision.
  • The nominee must be made aware of the nomination and agree to be nominated.

The nomination requires each question to be addressed as stated under the chosen award category. This information may be displayed in the program and on the day.
