Advisory Committees

These advisory committee meeting minutes were received and noted:

 Tenders

  • T-TRC2023-20 for the replacement of a bridge on Turner Road was awarded to Timber Restoration Systems for $288,605.11 including GST.
  • T-TRC2023-22 for the program management of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements was awarded to ARO Industries for $248,600.00 including GST.

Road Renaming

The name of Wrights Creek Road at Lake Eacham will remain unchanged. The pioneering contribution of the McMahon family was acknowledged.

Community Project Requests

Approval was given to the:

  • Yungaburra Men’s Shed to install a commercial-grade kitchen and to re-configure the lower level of the Yungaburra Memorial Hall.
  • Yungaburra Beautification Incorporated to install bud lighting in the Yungaburra township.

Waiving of Fees

The Malanda Men’s Shed water and sewerage connection fees will be waived.

Funding Agreement

Six projects totalling $920,000.00 were approved under the Reef Guardian Councils Program — Activating Local Council’s Reef Action Plans funding. The projects include:

  • community feral pig program — $108,951.00 excluding GST
  • alternative roadside vegetation trial — $85,115.00 excluding GST
  • improvements to soil conservation and stormwater drainage — $243,000.00 excluding GST
  • Priors Creek riparian restoration and interpretive walk — $153,236.00 excluding GST
  • installation of solar panels — $150,600.00 excluding GST
  • riparian restoration on private land — $179,098.00 excluding GST.

Financial Statement

Operating revenue and expenditure continue to be on target, and the report on performance against the Operational Plan in the October–December quarter was received and noted.

Malanda Pool

The report on the Malanda State School’s pool was received and noted. The pool is no longer open to the general public but Malanda School continues to work with community partners to make the pool available to swimming club and learn to swim programs.

Peterson Creek Walking Track

An offer of $150,000 excluding GST will be made for the purchase of part of 1–3 Penda Street in Yungaburra to allow for the continued access of a section of the Peterson Creek Walking Track.

Acquisition of Land

A small and unused parcel of land in Wondecla will be acquired to resolve complex ownership issues and the non-payment of rates for more than 15 years.

The next ordinary Council meetings will be at 9am Thursday 14 March in the Coordination Centre, 15 Vernon Street, Atherton. The meeting will be live streamed and recorded.
