Tableland Roller Derby League

Atherton
Tableland Roller Derby League teaches people to learn to skate from a Roller Derby perspective. Our Coaches are accredited by Skate Victoria to teach Roller Derby on quad roller skates.
The majority of training focuses on skate skills to improve safety and competency in preparation for playing Roller Derby either for WFTDA, Men’s Roller Derby or Junior Roller Derby. Each attendee is assessed for skate safety before progressing to contact. In the case of Juniors, very little contact is taught in line with Junior Roller Derby rules where contact is “positional only.” This means that skaters are not allowed to connect with another skater intentionally, thus “full contact” being a penalty. Once deemed safe, adult members can progress to “full contact” in a controlled environment before attempting games. League members are asked to sign and adhere to the League Code of Conduct.
Games tend to be mostly “away,” with the future vision of bringing games home and having home games with new numbers. We welcome people of all sizes, shapes, genders and fitness levels to come and try at our come-and-try days, join directly or come and watch. We are an inclusive league with a mission to improve the fitness of our community through the reinvigoration of the love of skating, encouraging the empowerment of women, children and other minorities through sport and promoting comradery within our league, the derby community and our local community. All by promoting the Sport of Roller Derby and other Roller Sports.
We run fundraising events every third Friday ( when the hall is available ) through Roller Discos where the local community can hire our Roller Skates and Skate at their own risk. These events follow our mission of inclusion by encouraging the Tablelands Community to get active through skating. We empower children specifically to find mastery in physical success through skating and providing entertainment that is specifically tailored to them. You can find out about our event dates on our Facebook page as sometimes we are unable to book a “third Friday” with the Community Hall at Atherton High School.
Our fundraising events are run by volunteers and have no relation to the high school or any other school so we ask all children under 12 to be supervised and we have made carer/parental supervision entry free to allow better supervision. All attendees are asked to stay in the hall till the end of the disco (unless the carer arrives early), not to enter the school premises and there are no pass-outs – If you leave you can not come back in. There is no loitering allowed around the hall and we will advise the police of any unauthorised entry into the school buildings. It is parents’/carers’ responsibility to monitor their children’s activity and we are not liable or responsible for damage to school property, or injury because of activity outside of the hall or to or from the event. Our insurance covers the hall only. Our advice is to drop the children off and pick them up at the specified end time and tell them they are not to leave until you arrive as anyone who leaves without notice can not return. We reserve the right to ban or dismiss attendees for bad behaviour, including but not limited to; Not listening to volunteer instructions or league rules, theft or destruction of league property, willful destruction of school property, and physical or verbal abuse of attendees or volunteers. Physical violence or hate speech is not tolerated. If the attendee is under 18, parents will be called and the attendee will be asked to remain inside the door till their ride arrives. Please make sure your child knows your phone number or they will not be allowed to return to the floor and will be waiting till you arrive. We reserve the right to change our entry fees and rules as required. Complaints can be directed to secretary@tablelandrollerderby.com
We are a not-for-profit volunteer organisation. As such, please understand that we are not a large corporate entity; we are doing a service for the community because of our love of skating and are doing our best. We will take your feedback, but access to our services is not a right, and the range of services is determined by our executive committee, not the general community, school or council. We follow all local laws but are not obliged to provide a service because you paid for it. Fees are a donation, and the services you receive are in good faith; we do not warrant these services past what is our legal obligation, and we ask for your patience as such. If you have a suggestion, we thank you and will listen and talk about it as a committee, but we reserve the right to alter services as the league sees fit.
