APA runs regular activities such as Youth Theatre, Singing and Script Club, as well as develops shows during which time, participants may meet two to four times weekly.
Singing Group — 2nd Tuesday of the month, 9.30am for altos, 10.00am for others.
Youth Theatre — Every Thursday during school terms. For young people aged 9 to 18 — Contact 0419 483 727.
Theatre games, activities, improvisations and work towards productions.
Script Club — Every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month — Contact 0449 082 307 prior to first attending.
Reading and discussing plays over a cuppa. Script writers are welcome to bring their own scripts for reading and supportive development.
Shows — generally take between six weeks and three months to prepare, depending on levels of complexity. Musicals may take up to six months. During the lead-up, particularly in the month prior to opening night, the theatre may be in use almost daily by various participants.
The opportunities for volunteers are limitless.
Those who love to act, sing or dance have the chance to participate in shows. There are opportunities to direct, stage manage, work backstage, produce, do lights and sound, front of house, costumes, sets, publicity, painting banners, and work in the library – the possibilities are endless, and all are welcome.
Atherton Performing Arts generally does three or four shows a year.
These comprise adult and youth musical, play and concert productions.
Each show usually goes for between two and twelve sessions.
Generally speaking, youth shows run four to six times, and adult shows six to eight times.
Musicals may have up to twelve showings. Musicals generally happen once every two years.

APA works with other theatre groups in the far north in presenting 1 Act Play Festivals biennially, works with The Arts Council Tablelands (TACTIC) in hosting international and national guest artist events to the Tablelands, hires the theatre out to other community groups for workshops, eg a church group, other Theatre groups and schools for performances, eg Tropical Arts Cairns or schools on the Tablelands.
APA works with TRC, our lessor, to upgrade the facilities that the Atherton Performing Arts Theatre offers.
