Record Crowd for Priors Shriek Spooktactular
More than 1,000 people walked through a haunted forest in a single hour at Priors Shriek: A Priors Creek Spooktacular on Friday 30 October.
The free event at Priors Creek Parklands in Atherton featured a haunted forest trick-or-treat trail, a Halloween disco and an outdoor screening of Little Shop of Horrors.
For most of the hour, the queue for the haunted forest stretched the full 250 metres of the Priors Creek Nature Trail. Families waited in costume, and nobody was turned away. Council staff and community volunteers had to restock the lollies more than once.
Council planned Priors Shriek in a few weeks on a modest budget and expected 300 to 500 people.
Mayor Kevin Cardew said, “Attendance was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t believe it. I’m so pleased the community is embracing Priors Creek Parklands, and I thank our staff for the creativity, commitment and enthusiasm they brought to delivering this event.
“Priors Creek was built for nights like this. Seeing families queue the length of the parklands in costume tells us the community wants more of it, and we’ll take that into planning for next year” the Mayor said.
The event was made possible not only by Council, but by the generosity of staff and community members who gave their time, talents, and even decorations to enhance the evening. Council staff, their families and community volunteers dressed up to haunt the trail and hand out treats.
Priors Creek Live events continue at the parklands, including monthly movie nights. Details are at trc.qld.gov.au/priors-creek-live.
