Residential Activation Fund Grants delivering for the Tablelands Region
Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) has welcomed significant funding from the Queensland Government that will deliver accelerated housing development opportunities in the Tablelands, through investment in supporting infrastructure.
The significant infrastructure initiatives will be jointly funded by Council and a grant of more than $2 Million, through Queensland Government’s Regional Activation fund. The funding will assist Council to deliver a number of critical water and sewer infrastructure projects, including the Malanda High Level Water Booster Pump Station, the Peakes Gully Trunk Sewer Main, and design work for future trunk water and sewer infrastructure.
Queensland Deputy Premier, Jarrod Bleijie, joined Acting TRC Mayor Dave Bilney and Councillors Con Spanos and Maree Baade at Peakes Gully, Atherton, to turn the first sod of soil on the planed infrastructure upgrades.
Acting Mayor Dave Bilney said Peaks Gully is going to realise up to 340 new lots, and the total funding State Government has provided to Tablelands Regional Council, will unlock just under 1100 lots for new homes, which is quite significant for the Tablelands.
“This is significant infrastructure, and the tip along that we need. the funding will assist council to progress a number of critical water and sewerage projects”, the Acting Mayor Said.
“Council appreciates the Queensland Government’s recognition that housing supply depends upon enabling infrastructure. We also welcome the opportunity to continue working together with State Government on practical and sometimes long-awaited projects. These projects support sustainable residential growth, regional liveability and long-term economic confidence across the Tablelands”.
Housing availability and affordability remain significant challenges for regional communities across Queensland, including here on the Tablelands. While there is strong demand for new housing, one of the key barriers to delivery is often the essential infrastructure that sits behind it, including water and sewerage infrastructure needed to support future residential growth.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the Crisafulli Government was committed to unlocking the housing supply needed to deliver a place for more Queenslanders to call home.
“The Crisafulli Government’s landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund keeps delivering for Queensland, having unlocked more than 98,000 homes across Queensland with more to come,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
“You can’t build new homes, without the infrastructure that unlocks new land and RAF is about accelerating the delivery of critical trunk infrastructure, such as water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and roads – essential foundations for unlocking new residential developments.”
