Queensland Seniors Month 2026

October is Queensland Seniors Month and highlights the importance of supporting older people in our community to live active, healthy and fulfilling lives while remaining connected, valued and included.

This year’s theme is Connect and Celebrate — creating opportunities for older people around us to build meaningful connections within the community.

Seniors Month also provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate our senior community members, family members and friends across the Tablelands for their contributions — whether as volunteers, employees or business owners, community leaders or carers, grandparents or advocates.

This month, spend time with older family members and friends at one of the great community events across the region, or experience one of Tablelands Regional Council’s free gallery exhibitions.

If you are a senior, make this your month to connect with and meet new people in the region through one of the many Tablelands community groups or through volunteering at a Tablelands Regional Council library, visitor or information centre.

Tablelands Regional Council also has some other important initiatives taking place over Queensland Seniors Month:

Seniors Safety Squad — 9.00am–2.00pm Thursday 15 October at the Ravenshoe Mountain Institute.

A popular, multi-agency disaster preparedness education program for Tablelands residents aged 55+. Learn practical steps from emergency services experts and local community organisations to help prepare you and your household for emergencies. Participants receive a free first aid case to take home! Registration is required by 13 October via tablelands-events.bookable.net.au or by calling 1300 362 242.

Register for the TRC Pensioner Pre-Cyclone Clean-Up by 5pm on 23 October.

If you receive an age or disability pension and are in a kerbside collection area, Tablelands Regional Council will remove green waste, iron and general yard debris as part of our free pre-cyclone clean-up. White goods, furniture, household rubbish, car bodies and tyres are not eligible for collection. Register at trc.qld.gov.au/cyclone-cleanup or call on 1300 362 242 by 5pm Friday 23 October. Collections will begin in early November.
