Project Overview

TRC is seeking tourism industry feedback about our current tourism market, priorities and industry needs including support required, to inform our approach to infrastructure investment, destination marketing and advocacy.

Background

TRC acknowledges tourism as a key economic driver for our region. We actively promote our region as an ideal destination for nature and adventure experiences, including showcasing our unique history and culture. Whilst local government has no legislative role in tourism, TRC provides services to support our local tourism operators and attract visitors including:

  • Five visitor information centres located in Atherton, Herberton, Malanda, Ravenshoe and Yungaburra
  • Three art galleries (Tableland Regional, Old Post Office and Foyer)
  • Herberton Mining Centre (run with assistance of Herberton Mining Museum History Association)
  • Caravan parks and rest areas (Archers Creek Rest Area, Malanda Falls Caravan Park, Lakeside Motor Inn & Caravan Park and Rocky Creek War Memorial Park & Rest Area)
  • Tourism, culture and events support
  • Trail materials ­– Allumbah Heritage Walk, Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail, Arts, Crafts & Heritage Trail, Great Northern Fire Trails, Malanda Mosaic Trail, Popular Atherton Tablelands Walking & Hiking Trails, Tablelands Anzac Trail, Tolga-Kairi Cycle Loop, Top Ten Waterfalls on the Atherton Tablelands, Top Ten Trails, Anzac WWI Trail, World War II Trail etc
  • Tablelands Arts & Culture Map
  • Free brochure display in visitor information centres for TRC based businesses
  • Destination marketing contribution ($25K per year) – currently in final year of 3-year contract.
