Mt Garnet Rodeo

The Mt Garnet Rodeo was established in 1970 as a fundraiser for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children and was the culmination of the efforts and contribution of countless volunteers from the community. Since its foundation, the event has run every year since 1970, with the exception of the 2020 event which did not proceed due to the global pandemic. The Rodeo Association has the community at the centre of everything it does, which is evidenced by the bringing together of rural and remote communities for a fun-filled weekend of fellowship, as well as the long-term support to local organisations and charities. This includes the Mt Garnet State Primary School, funding local children to go away to camp every year; drought and flood relief; financial aid to local families; the Rural Fire Brigade and local SES cadets. This annual, one-day event held in tandem with the Mt Garnet Races provides the opportunity for rural and remote communities to gather and enjoy the fellowship, entertainment and fun. The event includes a one-day full points ABCRA affiliated rodeo which is a family day out, before the evening cabaret. Attendees come from across North Queensland and beyond, with camping tickets available for pre-sale and one day tickets available for purchase at the gate. The ticket price includes entry to the Mt Garnet Races, Mt Garnet Rodeo, the Cabaret (18+) and camping. There are food vendors on site and a small number of market stalls offer their products for sale on the day including western wear, leather goods and handbags.
