Seventeen New Australians Welcomed At Tablelands Citizenship Ceremony

Tablelands Regional Council welcomed seventeen new Australian citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony held at the Disaster Coordination Centre in Atherton on Friday 18 September.

Mayor Kevin Cardew presided over the ceremony, with new citizens joining the Tablelands community from countries including Germany, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Daryl Joseph of the Tableland Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation, Registered Native Title Body Corporate (RNTBC) delivered the Welcome to Country, encouraging the new citizens to look after the land around them, now that Australia is their home.

The Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) Tolga Branch prepared and served a traditional Australian morning tea and put together a small welcome package for each new citizen, truly welcoming gestures that were very well received on the day.
