Millaa Millaa Falls Visitor Precinct Improvement Has Commenced

Works have started on the next stage of a major upgrade to the Millaa Millaa Falls visitor precinct.

The upgrade was informed by feedback from locals, visitors and the business community. It includes the relocation and installation of a new amenities block, a new roadway for better vehicle access, safer pedestrian zones, and a new forecourt adjoining the main viewing platform. Informational signage, picnic tables and undercover seating will also be installed.

Acting Mayor Dave Bilney said the upgrade will give Millaa Millaa Falls a public space that matches the significance of the location. “This project will improve accessibility, update amenities and enhance the visitor experience, so the Falls remain a destination our community can be proud of, and one our visitors continue to enjoy.”

Construction began earlier this month, with work focused on site preparation, upgrades to the upper and lower parking areas, and decommissioning of the existing amenities block. The new amenities block is expected to be operational by the end of this year. The overall project is expected to be complete by June 2027.

There will be some impacts to visitation while works are underway.

No toilet facilities will be available at the falls for the remainder of 2026. Public toilets are located in Millaa Millaa township on Main Street, opposite the Millaa Millaa Hotel.

The lower car park will be closed for large portions of the works. Large buses, caravans and trailers will not be able to access the site during construction, and small buses and oversized vehicles will have limited access during the majority of works.

Access for mobility-impaired visitors will be limited while works at the lower area are conducted. Once complete, the precinct will offer significantly improved accessibility for everyone. Signage will be installed to show motorists which areas are open and closed during construction.

Subject to suitable weather, works in the upper car park are planned in the coming weeks. This will require a full closure of public access to the Millaa Millaa Falls precinct for a period of 1-2 days. Full closure of the precinct may also be required at other times during construction to ensure visitor safety.

Council has held public information sessions with the Millaa Millaa community and is keeping local businesses and tour operators informed as works progress. The Queensland Government has contributed $1,200,000 through the 2024-27 Works for Queensland program and $290,200 through the Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund, supporting Tablelands Regional Council to deliver essential infrastructure and create local jobs.
