Flood extent data is used to improve flood mapping and mitigation in the region. Peak water levels give us useful data and can be collected during or immediately after flooding.

If it is safe you can record the levels by:

taking photos and videos
marking water heights on walls, power poles or other infrastructure
marking water extent marks on the ground
looking for trapped debris
recording anecdotal evidence from others
photographing flood markers.
