Coordination Centre Open Day

Fire trucks, activities for kids and getting ready for a disaster will all be part of a free multi-agency open day at the Coordination Centre in Atherton on Monday 18 September.

‘Come and have a look at our state-of-the-art Coordination Centre and learn how to get ready for disaster events,’ said Local Disaster Management Group Chair Councillor Bernie Wilce.

‘There’s a chance to check out the fire trucks, learn first aid, join a radio workshop, and marvel at the skills of a morse code operator — so bring the kids for this great school holiday activity.

‘We’ll be putting on tours so you can find out how the facility is used as a regional hub for the coordination of disaster prevention, preparation, response and recovery. Meet our disaster partners from Queensland Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire, State Emergency Service, Queensland Ambulance Service and Tablelands Radio and Electronic Club.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity to pick up disaster preparedness information for your household that may save your loved ones, home and pets — and we’ve got face painting and a craft space to keep the kids entertained,’ said Councillor Wilce.

The open day is 10am–2pm Monday 18 September at the Coordination Centre at 15 Vernon Street, Atherton. Tours of the facility leave on the hour from 10am.
