2025 Australia Day Award Recipients

Today we celebrated the 2025 Australia Day Awards at a ceremony in Atherton.

‘It was a great day to recognise these amazing people and organisations in our community, and remind ourselves why the Tablelands Region is such a great place to live, work and play,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.

‘Arts, sports, recreation, community services and events in our region would be nothing without the support and contribution of these people and organisations.

‘Congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients.

‘It was also a great honour to welcome seven new Australian citizens into our community,’ said Mayor Marti.

From 39 nominations across the region, the 2025 TRC Australia Day Award recipients are:

  • Citizen of the Year — Alf Hogan
  • Young Citizen of the Year — Flynn Hyde
  • Community Event of the Year — Tableland Roller Derby League
  • Community Service — Graham Wardle
  • Inclusion — Ravenshoe Men’s Shed
  • Sports Supporter — Roger and Annette Wadley
  • Junior Sports — Kobi Johnston and Samika Sheahan (joint recipients)
  • Cultural — Kylie Akers

‘We were also honoured to have presented the local State Emergency Services Awards into our Australia Day ceremony this year,’ Mayor Marti said.

‘We owe a lot to the SES and appreciate the critical role they play in our community.

‘It’s fantastic to be able to recognise their contribution and commitment via these awards,’ Mayor Marti said.

The SES award recipients are:

  • Phillip Mansbridge, Leading Field Officer Atherton SES
  • Sandra Singleton, Leading Field Officer Atherton SES
  • David McConnell, Leading Field Officer Atherton SES
  • Cath Kent, Group Leader Atherton SES
  • Kylie Lang, Local Controller Atherton SES
  • Colleen James, Group Leader Malanda SES
