Community Projects Approved

Two more community project requests were approved at today’s ordinary Council meeting and Mayor Rod Marti is pleased the Council has been able to further support the community.

‘Malanda Gymnastics Club are hoping to make some changes to the facility they share with Malanda Judo Club to help with airflow, temperature and light,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.

‘The installation of two roller doors and insulation will help with ventilation and temperature control.

‘Ten outdated light fittings will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lights to provide better illumination, and additional fans and power points will improve the functionality of the space.

‘These improvements will also contribute to the reduction of running costs for these growing clubs and we wish them well with their grant applications for the work,’ Mayor Marti said.

The planting of 400 trees on the Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail was also approved at the meeting.

‘The Tablelands Outdoor Recreation Association Inc. and T4 will plant the trees between Pillinger Drive in Tolga and the Kennedy Highway,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.

‘In time the trees will provide shade for trail users and a windbreak for adjacent properties.

‘It will also reduce the area that we are required to slash.

‘We’re happy to be supporting the project by providing just over $4000 and in-kind support to spray the area in preparation for planting,’ Mayor Marti said.
