Tablelands Regional Council by-election

Following the resignation of former Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) Mayor Rod Marti for health reasons, a by-election was recently held to elect a new Mayor. On Monday 31 August, the Electoral Commissioner of Queensland declared TRC Division One Councillor Kevin Cardew, to be the new TRC Mayor.

On Wednesday 2 September, Mr Cardew recited and signed a Declaration of Office as a requirement under the Local Government Act and formally commenced in his new role as Mayor. View the Declaration of Office.

Following the Declaration proceedings, Mayor Cardew made a short statement to community members present. “Thank you all for coming along today, to witness this truly overwhelming event for myself”.

“I want to thank my wife and my family and everybody out there who supported me and have put their faith in me, by electing me the Mayor to represent you. Thank you everybody. Now I’ve got to get on with the job and fulfil some of those commitments that I’ve made to you”. The newly elected Mayor said.

Dates for a by-election will be announced by the Electoral Commission of Queensland in due course to fill the now-vacant role of TRC Division One Councillor.
