Wet Weather and Flood Preparedness
A monsoon trough currently lies over Cape York Peninsula and is expected to persist throughout the week. Along this trough, a weak tropical low (29U) has formed in the northern Coral Sea. Its longer-term movement remains uncertain, but it may drift toward the Far North Queensland coast and Tablelands from Wednesday.
Widespread showers and the risk of further heavy rain are expected over the coming days.
Catchments across our region are wet to saturated, with some flooding already occurring from recent rainfall. Additional rain may lead to rapid river rises and further flooding.

Safety and Preparedness Advice:
- Never drive, walk, swim, or play in floodwater. It is extremely dangerous.
- Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, creeks, and waterways.
- Obey road closure signs and plan alternative routes to avoid flooded roads. Never drive across a flooded road.
- Keep up to date with ABC and local media; the situation can change quickly.
- Prepare for wet weather: ensure gutters and drains are clear, check your emergency kit, and secure loose items around your property.
- Discuss a safety plan with your family, including how to contact each other and where to shelter if conditions worsen.
