Tablelands University Centre Funding Support

Financial support for the Tablelands University Centre (TUC) in Atherton, will be extended for another three years to the amount of $20,000 per annum after a unanimous vote by Tablelands Regional Councillors yesterday.

TRC has had a key role in supporting the establishment and ongoing operation of the TUC, by providing funding to Vocational Partnerships Group (VPG) to the sum of $45,000 over a three-year period from 2023 to 2025.

VPG identified that the establishment of a Regional University Study Hub on the Tablelands would enable students to engage locally in vocational education, tertiary access programs, higher education and industry specific professional development of their choice, without needing to relocate from the Tablelands. The organisation states over 200 students have accessed the centre since it opened in March 2023.

Mayor Rod Marti said, ‘The TUC is an extremely valuable resource making qualifications, including tertiary degrees, available right here on the Tablelands – it’s making a very important contribution.’

‘For the small amount of money that we offer the university, I think the work that they do there is paramount, and I think it’s really good for those who are a little disadvantaged in our community that need the support,’ Councillor Con Spanos said.
