Temporary Changes for Waste Transfer Stations
Tablelands residents, we need to ask for a bit of teamwork over the next few weeks. One of our two specialised waste trucks that support waste transfer operations has suffered a major mechanical failure (a broken turbo), which means we are temporarily down to a limited fleet. Because of the highly specialised type and function of the vehicle, unfortunately it is not possible hire or borrow an alternative truck.
To make sure we can still manage the region’s waste efficiently while the truck is in the shop for repairs, we need to make some temporary changes at some of our Waste Transfer Stations for at least the next 3 weeks.
Temporary Closures Commencing Monday 23 February
We expect the following Transfer Stations will unfortunately be closed from Monday for the next few weeks:
- Millaa Millaa
- Herberton
- Yungaburra
Where to go instead?
Millaa Millaa and Yungaburra residents
Please use the Malanda Transfer Station
238 English Rd, Kureen.
Open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, *Saturday and Sunday
8.00am–12.30pm and 1.00–5.00pm
* To help with the extra volume, Malanda will be open on Saturdays over the period the truck repairs are underway
Herberton residents
Please use the Atherton Transfer Station
310 Herberton Rd, Atherton.
Open 8.00am to 5.00pm 7 days a week
Please note there are no changes to opening hours or operations for other transfer stations within the Tablelands region.
Losing one of our trucks limits our capacity significantly, and the turnaround time for repairs is affected by parts availability as well as install time. Running a single bin from Millaa Millaa is a 5-hour round trip. By consolidating waste at Malanda and Atherton, we can keep waste transfers moving much faster with fewer trucks.
If you can hold off on that big shed clean or bulk-waste drop-off for a few weeks, it would make a massive difference for our waste management team.
