Gift of Land
Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) is gifting more land to Tablelands Community Housing Association Inc (TCHA) so they can construct additional affordable housing for the community.
TRC previously donated land on Kelly Street, Atherton for TCHA’s Curtain Fig Cottages Project — five duplexes (10 one-bedroom units) for older women — which is due for completion later this year.
‘TCHA has requested a further 1384m2 of freehold land, adjacent to the current site on Kelly Street, so they can continue to expand their housing for the community,’ said Councillor Con Spanos.
‘Their plan is to build a further four duplexes (eight one-bedroom units) for seniors, which is a real game changer for services that support older people to live at home.
‘The Kelly Street location is central to town amenities while still being part of a larger green space.
‘We’re proud to be able to continue to donate land to TCHA for this important project, and this is one of the many ways we are showing our ongoing commitment to older people in our community and support for our Local Housing Action Plan objectives, THCA’s Housing Strategy and Queensland Government’s Homes for Queenslanders Plan,’ Councillor Spanos said.
TCHA Chief Executive Officer Cate Teece acknowledged TRC’s ongoing support and expressed appreciation of the generous donation.
‘This commitment by TRC expands our ability to increase the supply of social and affordable housing on the Tablelands.
‘By making this project possible, TRC is helping ensure our seniors can live safely, comfortably and with dignity at home and demonstrates TRC’s strong commitment to the wellbeing of older members of our community,’ said Ms Teece.
