State Seat Redistribution Submission

Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) has provided a submission to the Queensland Redistribution Commission regarding the proposal to divide the TRC Local Government Area (LGA) between the seats of Mulgrave and Traeger.

‘Our preference is for the seat of Hill to be retained and, if this cannot be accommodated, then our LGA to be wholly included in Mulgrave,’ said TRC CEO Dr Nikola Stepanov.

‘We want the commission to understand this isn’t just lines on a map for us, it affects the daily lives of 26,700 people who call this region home.

‘We are more connected physically and emotionally to Mulgrave and have well-established ties in business organisations, advocacy groups, the regional tourism organisation and state district offices and directors for traffic, roads, planning, trade, agriculture, etc.

‘We share our environment, travel routes, planning frameworks, priorities and everyday connections with Mulgrave.

‘Our major industries of agriculture and tourism hardly align with Traeger’s mining profile, and we question how extending one of Queensland largest electorates will foster fair and equitable representation.

‘We acknowledge the commission’s difficult task in balancing quotas and appreciate the opportunity to provide a submission,’ Dr Stepanov said.
