The finish line is in sight for Priors Creek Parklands opening

Construction of Atherton’s new Priors Creek Parklands and surrounding precinct is entering its final stages, with major elements of the project now largely complete.

‘Priors Creek Parklands is already presenting a vision as a great space for events and activities and a welcoming community park’ said Mayor Rod Marti.

‘It will no doubt become a key location for the community and visitors to spend time in the sun, explore the unique environment around the park and for unique events and family activities.’

The main parkland area is almost complete with finishing touches underway. The amphitheatre and main stage are built, most of the landscaping and turfing is complete and core infrastructure and amenities are now in place.

So what’s next?

With the main parklands mostly completed, the focus of works now turns to the park surrounds and enhanced parking and traffic flow for the precinct. This will understandably mean some temporary interruptions to traffic and parking arrangements.

Vernon Street

  • Works will be underway to upgrade footpaths between Main Street and Priors Creek Parklands.
  • The old toilet block in the centre of Vernon Street will be removed once the new toilet facilities within Priors Creek Parklands are operational.
  • The works are expected to take eight or nine weeks to complete and may result in some minor traffic delays.
  • Access in and out of the Silo Shopping Centre and onto Railway Lane will remain open.

Jack Street

  • Works are currently underway for a new turning circle in Jack Street at the Priors Creek end and are expected to be completed by mid-April.
  • There may be some minor traffic delays during these works, however access through Railway Lane or onto Jack Street will remain available.

Railway Lane Carpark reconfiguration and upgrade

  • Railway Lane Carpark will be closed from Monday 9 March 2026 with works expected to be completed by end of June.
  • Railway Lane access will remain open, however parallel parks adjacent to carpark will not be accessible.
  • The upgraded carpark will include new surfacing, improved layout, and enhanced lighting.

Mabi Way

  • Atherton will soon have a new street running along the front of Priors Creek Parklands called Mabi Way.
  • The word Mabi comes from the Ngadjon name for some our region’s most unique residents, Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroos.

While the schedule for these works will ultimately depend on favourable weather conditions, TRC and the contractors delivering the project will be working to complete the precinct works as efficiently as possible while minimising disruptions for the community.

Over the coming 8 weeks, site fencing will be adjusted to allow a closer view of the Priors Creek Parklands and some areas and amenities may progressively be opened as works are completed.

TRC acknowledges the upcoming roadworks and carpark upgrades may cause some temporary inconvenience and thanks the community for its patience while these final stages of the project are completed.
