Paw Patrols

Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) will be conducting a selective approved inspection program — Paw Patrol — throughout the region for the next six months.

‘The program involves inspecting properties to ensure dogs in our region have appropriate fencing and enclosures, and that they’re registered and microchipped,’ said Deputy Mayor Kevin Cardew.

‘Dog registrations give us information about the number of dogs in our community, and registering and microchipping helps us reunite you if your dog goes missing.

‘All dogs in our region must be registered and microchipped.

‘Registrations were due in July, so if it slipped your mind or you just haven’t got around to it, come and see us.

‘Officers undertaking the inspection program will be wearing TRC uniforms and carrying identification, and you can contact us on 1300 362 242 for further verification.

‘If we locate unregistered dogs and the owners are home, we can assist them to register their dogs while we’re there, as long as they’re already microchipped.

‘If no-one is home we’ll leave a contact card with details.

‘Owners of unregistered dogs will receive a registration warning letter and have 10 business days to register their dog/s.

‘Penalties of $287 can be issued if dogs remain unregistered

‘If a dog is registered at the property, but no longer lives there or other details have changed, we will work with the owners to update the details,’ said Deputy Mayor Cardew.

Tablelands Regional Council will be conducting a selective approved inspection program:

  • between Tuesday 22 November 2022 and Monday 22 May 2023 to ensure compliance with registration and microchipping requirements
  • between Tuesday 22 November 2022 and Wednesday 22 February to ensure compliance with requirements for proper enclosures to prevent animals from wandering.

The program will be conducted at properties across the region (except for rural land use zones) where dog registration has not been renewed in 2022-23 and dogs are known to be kept at the property, and there is no proper enclosure to prevent dogs from wandering.

Copies of the inspection program are available online and customer service centres (free of charge).
