NAIDOC Strength, Vision & Legacy

Celebrate NAIDOC Week with a flag raising ceremony at Tablelands Regional Council on Mabel Street.

‘We are inviting everyone to our ceremony to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.

‘NAIDOC Week (Sunday 6 – Sunday 13 July) is an opportunity to learn about First Nations’ cultures and histories, and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on Earth.

‘This year is a powerful milestone for NAIDOC week as we celebrate the 50th year of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture and resilience.

‘The theme — Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy — celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

‘We honour the next generation who will carry the torch, shaping the future with courage, insight and deep respect for their roots.

‘As a Council, we are committed to playing a critical role, in partnership with our community, in establishing a clear roadmap towards a reconciled, just and equitable region.

‘We’ll be raising the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islands and Australian flags outside our office on Mabel Street in Atherton.

‘We fly the three symbols to honour every Australian and recognise the integral contribution First Nations Peoples have made to our region and our country,’ said Mayor Marti.

The Flag Raising Ceremony and morning tea are at 10am Monday 7 July outside the TRC building on Mabel Street, Atherton.
