Mayor’s Community Christmas Appeal

Embrace the spirit of giving this Christmas by donating to the Mayor’s Community Christmas Appeal. Many people across our region need your help, and you have an opportunity to support people in need across the Tablelands this Christmas.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of the Tablelands community over $12,000 was raised providing 192 vouchers to local people in need.

For this year, you can drop cash into the donation tins at any of our customer service centres or deposit funds into the Tablelands Regional Council Community Christmas Appeal Gift Trust — BSB 084 512, Account Number 144 690 848, but don’t forget to put your name in the description so Tablelands Regional Council can thank you.

As a new initiative for this year, you can now recycle your bottles, cans and poppers at your nearest Containers for Change centre and donate your refund to the Mayor’s Community Christmas Appeal using Member Number: C11671275. A small gesture can make a very big difference to someone in need this Christmas.

Donations will be used to provide food vouchers for use in local supermarkets to people in need in our community and donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. You can also get your family or workplace together to make a joint donation. Food vouchers will be distributed to the community by local emergency relief agencies.

Non-perishable food and Christmas goodies like bonbons and decorations can be dropped at the TRC customer service centres and libraries in Atherton, Herberton, Malanda and Ravenshoe, and at these community organisations:

Better Together Community Centre — 16a Robert Street, Atherton | 9.00am–4.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

ECHO Empowering Services Neighbourhood Centre — 11–15 Eacham Place, Malanda | 9.00am–4.00pm Monday–Thursday and 9am–12noon Friday.

Ravenshoe Community Centre — 3 Bolton Street, Ravenshoe | 8.30am–3.00pm Monday–Friday.

Salvation Army Family Store — 89 Kennedy Highway, Tolga | 9.00am–2.45pm Monday-Friday.

Other ways of providing support to those in need across the Tablelands this Christmas include leaving new toys (not handmade) and gift cards for teenagers under the Giving Tree at the Atherton Big W store or dropping them at the Tolga Salvation Army Family Store or donating them at the Tablelands Toy Run on Saturday 28 November.
