Major Water Upgrades
Tablelands Regional Council is celebrating the recent completion and final testing of two major water projects, and Mayor Rod Marti is pleased with the improvements being made to water reliability, supply and quality.
‘The Malanda Integrated Water Supply Project was initiated in response to current and future growth and development in the Johnstone River Estate and Peeramon areas.
‘We’ve constructed a 3.19ML reservoir and 4km of pipeline to connect the area to the Malanda Water Supply Scheme, and the new components came online last month.
‘$9.8M was allocated to this project and final costs came in at $8.6M, which is a significant saving.
‘This financial year we will further add to the improvements to this system with a booster pump station — partially funded by the Residential Activation Fund,’ Mayor Marti said.
The long-awaited improvements to the Millstream Water Supply Scheme are in final stages of testing and Councillor Annette Haydon is looking forward to seeing the last of regular boil water notices for the Ravenshoe and Millstream areas.
‘The Ravenshoe Water Quality Improvement Project has been years in the making and we are eagerly waiting for the new treatment plant to come online.
‘The Ravenshoe reservoir was completed in 2022, and we’ve been constructing the water line to Millstream and water treatment plant over the last few years.
‘Once it’s all operational, the Millstream and Ravenshoe areas will have a water supply that is no longer affected by weather events,’ Councillor Haydon said.
The improvements to these two water supply schemes come on the back of the recent completion of the $3.2M Yungaburra Raw Water Replacement Project.
‘The water intake pontoon on Lake Tinaroo and associated ageing and non-compliant facilities were replaced to provide more water security to the growing village of Yungaburra,’ Councillor Maree Baade said.
Mayor Marti is appreciative of the time and effort that has gone into bringing these projects to fruition.
‘A lot of work goes into planning, funding, managing and executing these projects and I thank the many staff who have contributed over the years.
‘I’m really proud of the progress of these major water projects and that the planning and delivery will meet the growth in our region,’ said Mayor Marti.
The Residential Activation Fund is provided by the Queensland Government.
