Free Safety Program for Seniors

Safety is everyone’s responsibility and Tablelands Regional Council is hosting a free safety session for over 55s.

‘Our Senior Safety Squad is a popular, multi-agency disaster preparedness education program that we developed with Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire Department, State Emergency Service, various government agencies and other not-for-profit and community groups,’ said Councillor Kylie Lang.

‘The program supports seniors in preparing for, responding to and recovering from natural and other hazards.

‘Participants will take part in a range of activities including first aid, radio communications, bushfire simulation, working with the SES and preparing an emergency kit.

‘Some of the hazards include storms, cyclones, floods, electrical safety and bushfires and you’ll hear from emergency services and community organisations.

‘We’re holding the session at 9.30am–2.30pm Friday 31 October at the Coordination Centre, 15 Vernon Street in Atherton.

‘Places are limited so register or 1300 362 242 by Thursday 23 October,’ Councillor Lang said.

Morning tea and lunch are provided.
