Celebrate National Reconciliation Week

Tablelands Regional Council’s (TRC) Mayor Rod Marti is calling the community to be brave this National Reconciliation Week (NRW).

‘NRW is Friday 27 May to Friday 3 June and this year’s theme ‘Be Brave. Make Change’ challenges us to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can make change for the benefit of all Australians,’ he said.

‘It’s a time that we all learn about and understand our shared histories, cultures, and achievements.

‘TRC is committed to playing a critical role, in partnership with our community, in establishing a clear roadmap towards a reconciled, just and equitable region.

‘We strive to be a community that values diversity and celebrates culture.

‘Our Reconciliation Action Advisory Committee is chaired by Councillor Bernie Wilce and consists of representatives from the Southern Tableland Traditional Owners Alliance and staff.

‘Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) provides us with a clear direction to continue to advance reconciliation in the region and we’re keen to work with businesses and organisations on their own RAP journey.

‘We incorporate Acknowledgment of Country and Welcome to Country into meetings and events to uphold First Nations People cultural protocols, and are providing funding for NRW events in the community.

‘Join in the NRW events being held around the region including Jirrbal Aboriginal Corporation’s Mount Garnet Family Fun Day on Saturday 28 May, Better Together’s NRW Exhibition and Activities on Wednesday 1 June, and our First Nations Seniors’ Lunch on Friday 27 May.

‘Find out more from our events calendar and add your own NRW event.

‘Be a part of the role we all need to play in working towards reconciliation in our community,’ said Mayor Marti.
