Organised by the NSAA Tableland Branch, five Tableland soldiers that served in Australia’s third Conscription scheme will be recognised at a dedication ceremony. These include Ian Adcock, Mareeba (formerly Laura), Wally Crear, Montville (formerly Tolga), Ian “Doc” Martin OAM of Atherton and two Malanda residents Edward (Ted) Rolley and Kevin Plummer. One indigenous supporter member Rosena Anning will also be recognised.
The men were called up as soldiers under the 1951 to 1959 scheme when they were aged 18 and were required to complete 98 days of continuous training in this case at witth 11 National Service Training Battalion, Wacol near Brisbane. A similar period of training time then followed over the next 3 years in a local CMF training unit, such as the local 51st Battalion RQR.
