Summary of Demographics

A number of research and engagement activities have been carried out by Engagement Plus to date. These have included:

  • Mail distribution of a community survey to over 2000 residences in the Kuranda, Speewah, Koah and Myola areas. The survey was designed to identify the community’s views of, and aspirations for the site. The survey was also made available electronically via the Tablelands Regional Council website and hard-copy surveys were available at the Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre, Kuranda Library, Kuranda CWA Hall, Kuranda Post Office and Ngoonbi Cooperative Society. Responses closed on 5 May, 2011;
  • Mail out of an invitation to participate in a one-on-one telephone interview to 40 residences randomly selected from Council’s ratepayer database;
  • One-on-one discussions with over 30 stakeholders and interested members of the community;
  • Consideration of what other community facilities, services and programs exist for the Kuranda District;
  • Determination of possible funding strategies for the capital and operating costs;
  • Determination of possible governance models; and
