Quiet Achievers recognised

Thirty-two people from throughout the Tablelands have been recognised for their efforts at a special ceremony held in the Atherton boardroom of Tablelands Regional Council.

Mayor Tom Gilmore presented Certificates of Achievement to the recipients of the Quiet Achievers Awards, noting the diversity of their interests and the various benefits that flow to their respective communities.

"There are many people within our communities that quietly go about improving things or undertaking tasks that otherwise may not get done - these people are what today's awards are all about," Cr Gilmore said.

"I hope the dedication and passion displayed by the people we have recognised today inspires others to follow their example.

"By their nature, many of these people would never tell a soul of the work they do, and that's why we wanted to recognise them publicly and thank them for the time, energy and expertise they have devoted for the benefit of their community."

The Quiet Achievers Awards were an initiative of the former Herberton Shire and were traditionally presented on Queensland Day.

Division 2 Cr Shaaron Linwood, who was a member of the former shire, suggested the Tablelands Regional Council continue the tradition this year, especially in light of the State's 150th celebrations.

Awardees were: Robyn Bonehill of Atherton; Greg Weare of Atherton; David Leach of Yungaburra; Betty and Don Hepple of Mt Garnet; Robert Doyle of Ravenshoe; Bill Duck of Herberton; Sam Dansie of Atherton; Mary Thompson of Mareeba; George Precoma of Mareeba; Jean and Col Virgo of Millaa Millaa; Russell Fry of Lake Eacham; Shirley Lea of Mareeba; Dianne Miller of Dimbulah; Anna Rizzetto of Dimbulah; Diane DeBondi of Irvinebank; Peter Richardson of Irvinebank; Jane Chapman of Watsonville; Blue McAllister of Watsonville; Ray and Kay Pedersen of Watsonville; Sylvia Cockburn of Chillagoe; Col and Sue Coleman of Chillagoe; Steve Schulz of Chillagoe; Jax Bergersen of Kuranda; Gerald Hobbler of Kuranda; Ashley and Sue Cupitt of Yungaburra; Colin Jeanes of Kuranda; and Duncan Ray of Atherton.
