Community invited to celebrate completion of projects

Tablelands Regional Council is inviting all residents to join it to celebrate the completion of a number of projects, funded by a Federal Government infrastructure grant.

Five more projects funded with Council's $1.3 million slice of the $250 million Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program have been completed.

Mayor Tom Gilmore said works done at Dimbulah Caravan Park, Malanda Falls Swimming Pool, Millaa Millaa Falls Circuit, Mt Garnet Hall, and the Herberton Information Centre would be celebrated with public "openings" later this month.

"The aim of this grant was to inject funds into the region through a variety of works that would utilise local services, products and materials where possible to ensure our communities got the maximum benefit," he said.

"It's great to see the completion of these projects and the works done will no doubt provide long-term benefits for those communities."

The public is invited to attend the following venues to celebrate the completion of works to:

Monday, 15 February at 10am - Dimbulah Caravan Park, $130,000 - this project involved increasing the availability of accommodation at Dimbulah Caravan Park through the purchase of two transportable buildings, each consisting of five individual cabins, and the laying of a concrete slab.

Tuesday, 16 February at 10am (joint opening) - Millaa Millaa Falls Circuit, $30,000 - this project involved upgrading the circuit through improvements to the walking tracks, shelters and the removal of old logs.

Tuesday, 16 February at 10am (joint opening) - Malanda Falls Swimming Pool, $30,000 - this involved the reconstruction of the pathway and retaining walls of Malanda Falls pool to remove the underground entrance currently accessed by children and ensure safety.

Tuesday, 16 February at 12.30pm - Mt Garnet Hall, $58,000 - this project involved the upgrade to the hall including installation of a new ceiling which is suspended from the rafters and perlins, and insulation for the hall to moderate summer heat.

Tuesday, 16 February at 3pm - Herberton Information Centre, $150,000 - this project involved the construction of an extension to the centre to accommodate a community archive including mining documents and council records.
