The Tablelands Outdoor Recreation, Health and Wellbeing Expo was held on Saturday 6 May 2017 at the Merrilands Hall and Showgrounds, Atherton. The expo is a free community event aimed to encourage the Tablelands community to get involved in physical and mental health through leisure, sport and recreation. This is an initiative to help promote participation in sport, recreation, health and mental wellbeing within our region.
Expo attendees can enjoy participating in the free sport and recreation workshops, come and try activities, free face painting and jumping castle for the kids as well as the healthy food and drinks available from a range of local vendors.
There will be over 50 exhibitors on the day including sport and recreational clubs, local business and community organisations showcasing all things health, wellbeing, leisure, sport and recreation. There will be great demonstrations that all participants can get involved with ranging from yoga, Zumba and Qigong classes to trying your skills with wheelchair ball games.
The workshops held throughout the day will focus on sport and recreation including strapping for beginners, succession planning for clubs and much more!
9.40am My journey
Queensland State of Origin legend and Local Government Association of Queensland Ambassador Shane Webcke will kick off this event at 9.40am by sharing his views on teamwork, leadership, achieving success, managing life’s challenges and the importance of sport and recreation in the local community. We encourage all to get to the expo to hear Shane share his inspiring life story.
10.30am Live for the glory
Warren is a successful local farmer, business owner and car enthusiast who will be sharing his story of living with bi-polar and depression. Warren will share his personal strategies for managing mental health issues and the tools he puts in place to help himself.
10.45am Are we micro-managing ourselves sick, or are we micro-managing ourselves well?
Paul is a paramedic, trauma counsellor and inspirational speaker giving a no nonsense session on how to identify the cracks that form in our mental and physical health and how we can mobilise ourselves with tools to assist with mental health and wellbeing.
12.15pm Drugs – the facts, the myths and support
Simone is a Psychologist at Community Services Tablelands and has been educating in this field for 15 years. Simone will give an overview on the history of methamphetamine, addiction vs. recreation, harm minimisation, substitution vs. suppression and assistance available to our community.
TREVOR TIMS & BRAM COLLINS
1.30pm Success with attitude
Bram and Trevor will deliver a motivational session covering positive attitudes, goal setting and the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. Bram and Trevor will help the audience to create a success driven attitude which is fundamental to achieving goals.
