Tenix Alliance Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender for $6,198,000 to design and construct the Malanda Sewerage Scheme treatment plant. Read the full media release here.

The $14 million Malanda Sewerage Scheme is underway and is expected to be completed by March 2012.  The project is being supported by the Queensland Government which is providing a 65 per cent subsidy. Efforts recently have concentrated around ensuring controls were in place for heavy rains the area experienced last month.

Malanda House Connections Information

At its meeting on 3 February, Council resolved how residents would pay for the connection to their homes.

Council has finished installing the reticulation system, and constructing and commissioning the treatment plant by the end of this year, after which residents will be able to hook in to the sewerage system.

Council resolved to allow residents two options:

  • They can hire their own private contractor to connect them and pay the fee to that contractor which is estimated to be approximately $4500, or;
  • They can install their connection through Council's contractor at a set price (to be determined) and be able to pay the amount upfront, or through a benefited area levy, billed to them as part of their annual rates, over a period of time at full cost recovery.

Council will advise residents once more information on the exact costs and the payment period becomes available.
