Tropical Cyclone Yasi

Latest Updates and Announcement

Cyclone and Flood Assistance extended until June 30 2012 http://www.qraa.qld.gov.au/

The Tablelands Community, Economic and Environmental Recovery and Reconstruction Plan has been prepared by Tablelands Regional Council on behalf of our local communities to outline our needs and priorities following Tropical Cyclone Yasi which impacted the region during February 2011.

The Tablelands Community, Economic and Environmental Recovery and Reconstruction Plan is a medium to long-term plan for the recovery and reconstruction of our disaster affected communities. It is a living document which will be continually reviewed to enable Council and our communities to implement and monitor recovery efforts and to periodically assess our progress against our recovery objectives. The priority of Tablelands Regional Council has been to ensure an effective response to the immediate needs and short-term recovery of our communities. As we progress into medium to long-term recovery, Council wishes to nurture our communities to be safe, secure and self-sufficient whilst at the same time developing awareness and preparedness for future disaster events.

Tablelands Regional Council formally adopted the plan on 15 June 2011 prior to submission to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for consideration and support. It should be noted that the submission to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority does not guarantee that projects will be funded but it will enable the Authority to identify and prioritise possible resource alignment to proposed projects. State Library of Queensland is seeking your photos from the state’s 2010/11 summer of natural disasters for this special Flood and Cyclone Mosaic.
We are collecting photos from people and communities affected by floods or cyclone, to form a digital tapestry of recent events through the eyes of Queenslanders.

The interactive mosaic will be a visual record of what happened – to share with current and future generations, as a way of remembering, learning, understanding and healing.

The mosaic can be viewed online and as a part of Floodlines, a major State Library exhibition from 24 March 2012. Photographs may be considered for inclusion in State Library’s permanent collection.
