Disaster Coordination Centre

When a disaster event occurs, Council has primary responsibility for coordinating the management of the community response within its boundaries.

During times of disaster, the Tablelands Disaster Coordination Centre (DCC) is activated by the Chairperson of the Local Disaster Management Group.

The Local Disaster Coordinator will manage the Disaster Coordination Centre and is responsible for coordinating the disaster response operations in conjunction with Officers from other lead emergency agencies.

Once the Centre is activated the phone number 1300 362 242 will be activated and widely publicised through local radio. This is the telephone number the public should use to seek assistance before, during and after a disaster event.

Definitions

A disaster is a serious disruption in a community, caused by the impact of an event, which requires a significant coordinated response by the State and other entities to help the community recover from the disruption.

A serious disruption means:

(a) Loss of human life, or illness or injury to humans; or

(b) Widespread or severe property loss or damage; or

(c) Widespread or severe damage to the environment.
