Hallorans Hill development

The release of the Far North Queensland Regional Plan 2009 - 2031 (FNQ Regional Plan) acknowledges the need for an investigation of options and demand for future urban growth in Atherton.

Initiated by Council, the Atherton Urban Growth Study investigates the suitability of three Urban Growth Investigation Areas (UGIAs) nominated:

  • UGIA South – located approximately 2 kilometres south of Atherton
  • UGIA North – located approximately 6 kilometres north of Atherton (located between Tolga and the rural subdivisions of Rangeview/Tandara to the North West)
  • UGIA East – located approximately 2.5 kilometres east and north east of Atherton (located beyond the Halloran’s Hill Conservation Park)

The study also develops and compares settlement pattern scenarios to determine how development in one or a mix of the UGIAs might be successfully integrated with the existing urban fabric of Atherton, and the efficiency of servicing such growth areas.

Development of the Atherton Urban Growth Study will occur in two stages:

  • Stage 1 - Determining preferred growth options, adopted by Council on 16 December 2009 with conditions
  • Stage 2 - Structure Planning
