The Tablelands Regional Council has embarked on developing a new planning scheme which will direct and manage growth over the entire Tablelands region. It will replace the four separate planning schemes of the former Atherton, Eacham, Herberton and Mareeba Shire Councils.
Land use planning determines where and how future growth is located, and which existing features and values need protection. In short, planning balances the need for growth, change and development with the need to protect the existing character, quality and operation of the places we live.
Good land use planning ensures that our towns and regions are attractive, functional and cater to the needs of their residents.
How we plan our towns and regions reflects our values and priorities as a community, and has long lasting ramifications into the future. By consulting and engaging the community, these values can be distilled into the new planning scheme.
