Flammable and Combustible Liquids (FCL)

The Dangerous Goods Safety Management Act 2001 legislation aims to protect the safety of persons, and prevent harm to property and the environment, from hazardous materials. Under this legislation Council must administer the requirements for the safe storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids.

The Australian Standard “AS1940 The Storage and Handling of Flammable and Combustible Liquids” sets out the requirements for the design, construction and operation of installations for the storage and handling of FCL.

Premises storing in excess of the minor storage, require licensing e.g. service stations, workshops, commercial buildings, shops etc. Some locations are also exempt from licensing.
